Well it looks like there’s a new empty building on Calgary Trail that needs filling!

The old Canadian Tire was torn down, and was SUPPOSED to be replaced with a Whole Foods, but Whole Foods has recently pulled out of placing their stores in Alberta.

Now Whole Foods in Canada will only be in Ontario and BC.

“Whole Foods Market is committed to expanding in Canada with two stores in development, but we will not be moving forward with the Calgary or Edmonton store locations,” wrote spokeswoman Beth Krauss in a one-sentence email late last week.

Whole Foods announced back in February 2015 that it would open a 42,000-square-foot location in south Edmonton by the fall of 2016. It said the store would create an estimated 150 jobs.

Speculation for Whole Foods sudden cancellation is that it’s due to the Canadian dollar difference, and the fact that Edmonton already has many organic food stores that provide the same products Whole Foods does.
