If you check out NEW CITY’s biography on their Facebook page, you’ll find two simple words: “YOUNG AND SEXY”.

These Toronto boys do not lack any confidence and when you listen to their music you can definitely see why!

A little background on these guys. Adrian Mitchell grew up in Oro-Mendonte, Ontario, while Jed Webster and Nathan Brown grew up in the small town of Sussex, New Brunswick.

The trio met at a house party in Toronto and reflect fondly on their modest beginnings.

Nathan says, “You wouldn’t think this would be our path, Jed and I took a huge risk moving out of our small town and heading to Toronto to pursue music…We literally slept on a basement floor for two years, working on music everyday. Towards the end of it, when we met Adrian, it was all three of us in there. We wrote so many of our songs in that basement apartment.”

New City are as unapologetically about their hometown as other notable ‘6ix’ artists like Drake and The Weeknd and are all about having a good time and not taking themselves too seriously.

Jed says, “A lot of people take things so seriously…We believe if it feels good you should do it. If it sounds good, you should play it. Do things that make you feel more alive. Anything that brings you that energy, you need to do more of that.”

Describing the band’s sound, Nathan says “It’s mixing modern day electronic music into a band…That’s not really being done right now, which is pretty cool. It’s electronic with trap, with pop. It’s just a big f**king melting pot.”

Think something along the lines of Maroon 5 or Calvin Harris when listening to NEW CITY, specifically tracks like ‘One More Night’ and ‘Slide’.

If you’re getting a “carefree easy” vibe from the band, it’s probably because of their pro-pot stance and the overall fun-loving approach they have on life.

Adrian says, “You’ve got to get it while you’re young…We just wanted people to stop worrying so much about making mistakes and be free. That’s what the song feels like.”

He adds, “Our music is definitely for the weekend…As soon as five o’clock hits on Friday throw on our music and start partying because that’s what people will think of as soon as they feel it.”

When talking about the band’s debut trackCoachella’, Adrian says, “Everything in that song is basically about what we thought Coachella would be like if we went and everything that would happen.”

Just check out the song’s music video: think VIP exclusive lounges, drinking and hookups.
