After more than five years together, Lena Dunham and Jack Antonoff have officially called it quits.

Dunham’s rep has confirmed the split, which—according to reports—went down in December when the 31-year-old Girls creator and the 33-year-old Bleachers singer apparently ended things amicably. “It was mutual,” a source told E! “Jack and Lena were growing apart and it just made sense for them to end their relationship where it was.” The insider added that Dunham and Antonoff “want the best for each other no matter what.”

The news comes only months after Dunham penned a tribute to Antonoff for Variety in October 2017, where she wrote, “It’s safe to say that before Jack my life was full of far fewer sights.”

The pair frequently posted photos together on social media, and in November 2017, Dunham revealed on Twitter that she thought Antonoff was planning a proposal, only to be mistaken. “I thought Jack was furtively planning a proposal to me with his sister and he just admitted I actually caught him ‘talking shit’ about me!” she tweeted. “Now I literally can’t sleep cuz I’m laughing too hard and I am also keeping him awake. 5.5 years, no rock and you know what? It’s real nice,” she added on Twitter.

The former couple were set up by a mutual friend in 2012, and Antonoff said that he revealed his feelings on their first date. “I told Lena everything about my whole life, because when you really like someone, you want them to know everything about you,” he told Vulture in 2014.

While neither parties have personally commented on the breakup, we are sad for them both and wishing them well.
