Swimming pool

We’re just over a week away from the official start of summer and that means the city and backyard pools will be operating in full swing. Splashing around with your pals in the pool is a great way to cool down during the summer months, but why do your eyes get so red?

Well you may have been told that chlorinated pools are super clean but a new study may have you thinking twice. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or the CDC, teamed up with the Water Quality and Health Council as well as the National Swimming Pool Foundation and they say there are a few things you should know …

First, if your eyes get red after a dip in a pool it’s probably due to urine and sweat reacting with the chlorine.  The chlorine we put in we pools to help keep them clean reacts with the urine and sweat and that reaction is what makes your eyes red.

The CDC recommends simply hopping in the shower before you jump in the pool and don’t even think about going in the pool if you’re sick.

That’s dis-gusting!
