The Humane Society rescued 89 cats from a Calgary woman’s house.

The woman is a local Maine Coon breeder, now being accused of hoarding an unhealthy amount of cats in an unsuitable environment.

(UPDATE: There has been no ‘official’ diagnosis, but it is heavily suggested this woman suffers from a hoarding mental illness)

This news comes with a very sad outcome.

Almost all of the cats were suffering from multiple health conditions.

The Calgary Humane Society says they were living in an unsafe environment, and tests done after the rescue showed the cats were suffering from serious communicable diseases.

Sadly, two thirds of them had to be put down.

The woman is facing a fine of $20,000 and a ban on owning pets.
