Last night Coldplay turned Rogers Place into a giant kaleidoscope as they took to the stage for night two of their stop in the YEG. Concertgoers were given specially designed LED wristbands at the entrance that were activated on cue throughout the show.

Coldplay Audience - Edmonton 2017

As soon as the band stepped on stage, the party began with a bang – and by bang, we mean copious amounts of rainbow coordinated confetti in true Coldplay fashion. Within the first few songs, it was obvious why their “A Head Full of Dreams”  tour is one of the top five most successful (and highest grossing) of all time! Chris Martin’s vocal range is nothing short of impressive and his stage presence had everyone in awe from beginning to end.

The show was as raw and as real as it gets, Chris Martin stopped and re-started songs several times throughout the night. He even stopped a song part way through to ask the audience to put their cellphones and devices away to just enjoy the music – and looking out over the crowd not a phone in sight for the next few minutes.

Of course the 24-song set ended with a blast of confetti but this time added some over sized balloons throughout the arena and before you knew it, the show was over. If you’ve ever been to a major concert, you know there’s going to be the not-so-surprising encore, although this time was a bit different. When the band re-emerged, they did a stripped down set in the middle of the 100 section giving fans further back the surprise of a lifetime. Martin sang and interacted with fans throughout the first part of the encore before returning to the main stage to perform their latest hit with the Chainsmokers, “Something Just Like This” as the finale.

Overall, it was a great show and if you weren’t a Coldplay fan before the show – you definitely would be before the last blast of rainbow confetti.
