Supermodel Gigi Hadid is sick of people criticizing her “too skinny” body, and is telling haters there’s more to her physical appearance than what meets the eye.

On Sunday, the 22-year-old posted a series of Tweets detailing her personal health struggles and explained why her weight has fluctuated throughout her modelling career. “For those of you so determined to come up w why my body has changed over the years, you may not know that when I started @ 17 I was not yet diagnosed w/Hashimoto’s disease; those of u who called me ‘too big for the industry’ were seeing inflammation & water retention due to that,” she wrote.

The tweets, which came in the middle of New York Fashion Week, went on to describe how over the last few years Hadid has been seeking treatment for her symptoms of Hashimoto’s disease—an autoimmune disorder that affects the thyroid—including “extreme fatigue, metabolism issues, [and her] body’s ability to retain heat.” Apart from maintaining a better sense of overall heath thanks to her treatment, the model also revealed she was part of a holistic medical trial to help balance her thyroid levels.

“Although stress & excessive travel can also affect the body, I have always eaten the same, my body just handles it differently now that my health is better. I may be ‘too skinny’ for u, honestly this skinny isn’t what I want to be, am still learning and growing with my body everyday, as everyone is,” she wrote.

The model also shut down drug use rumours (again), and asked people to not put her in “that box” just because they don’t understand the way her body has matured. “I will not further explain the way my body looks, just as anyone, with a body type that doesn’t suit ur ‘beauty’ expectation, shouldn’t have to,” she clapped back.

In her final kickass tweet, Hadid urged people to be kinder and “to have more empathy for others.” She added, “know that you never really know the whole story. Use your energy to lift those that you admire rather than be cruel to those u don’t.”

Famous friends of Hadid supported her and shared their own words of encouragement on Twitter. Actor and model Ruby Rose tweeted back at Hadid saying, “Sorry you too have to explain something so ridiculous to people. Love to you. Love to the people who try to tear down others also because they are just people who haven’t had the spiritual growth that needs to occur to love and accept one another.”

Model Hailey Baldwin jumped in, too, replying to Hadid with, “annoying and unfortunate that you have to explain your personal matters to the world. You slay, love you Gi.” Victoria’s Secret model Martha Hunt voiced her love for Hadid by tweeting, “I stand with @GiGiHadid – The body shaming has to stop! The truth is no matter who you are, we all struggle with being criticized about our bodies. ‘Healthy’ looks different on everyone!”

BFF Kendall Jenner retweeted Hadid and wrote “preach,” while Sports Illustrated and Victoria’s Secret model Lily Aldridge replied to Hadid’s tweet saying she loves her fellow model and said that “the last meal I had with G was a FULLLLY LOADED @KFC FEAST.”

And, naturally, Chrissy Teigen, queen of the clapback, also replied to Hadid’s tweet in a very Teigen-esque way.
