There’s been some buzz about the need for more off leash dog parks in the Edmonton area. According to the City of Edmonton, there’s just over 40 areas where you can let your pooch run free… BUT WE WANT MORE!

A perfect spot would be those outdoor ice rinks that go unused during the warmer months. They’re boarded off and would be a secure spot to let dogs do their thing.

Well, there’s a Dogs Off Leash program that’s hoping city council approves a proposal that would provide funding to community leagues to operate off-leash dog sites inside the boards of the rinks.

If you want to help make this happen in your neighbourhood, get in touch with your community league. The Dogs Off Leash program coordinator Amanda Brown told Global: “Any community leagues considering this idea should get in touch with their neighbourhood resource coordinator to discuss the process.”

Just so you know, letting your dog off leash in playgrounds, sports fields and school grounds is illegal.

Hopefully we’ll have more dog friendly spots in the city soon!
