Does Meghan Markle now speak with an English accent? A viral video from Meghan’s June visit to Chester shows the Duchess of Sussex sporting a new twang!

This fan-recorded audio is a bit garbled, but people are detecting a distinct change in inflection around the :08 mark.

In February, fans pointed out that when she said “scone”, it rhymed with “gone,” which is a classic English pronunciation. When Americans say “scone,” it usually rhymes “bone.”

It’s hard not to big up cadences from another accent when you’re surrounded by those who speak with it the majority of the time – just like someone who starts saying “y’all” after being in the south for a while. It’s not a big deal

It may seem strange, but voice coaches have claimed that when a trained actress is surrounded by people with a particular accent, it’s not surprising she’d pick it up.
