It may be summer now, but rewind back to March, when the KiSS Dream Machine was fulfilling your dreams… that’s when Jason and his family won a gift that will change their lives.

In his own words, this was Jason’s wish:

I am dreaming of getting a night’s sleep for my wife and myself.  In 2016, our now six year old daughter was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Smith-Magenis Syndrome.  This is an all-encompassing syndrome that affects all parts of hers and our daily lives.  The two major issues we face are severe injurious behavior and the fact that she has an inverted circadian rhythm where she is up frequently throughout the night. Most of our days begin between 2am and 3am as she can not be trusted alone as she has been known to wander away from home, has left taps running with plugs in the sink and one family with a child with our daughter’s syndrome just set their house on fire.  Getting up daily at 3am would be manageable if we could nap when she is at school but we both work throughout the day and we also have two older boys we need to tend to as well.  This lifestyle has taken a toll on all of us and my wife and I are in a constant fog.  When you compound the stress of having a special needs child as with limited sleep this life is tough and we struggle daily with our emotional state.  We have tried nighttime respite but the severe self-injurious behavior rears its ugly head when our daughter doesn’t see mom or dad in the middle of the night.  Hearing your child banging their head on the wall or the floor at 3:00am is very tough and unfortunately the best form of respite is mom and dad!  There is a product that has made a world of difference for special needs families like ours.  It is called a Safety Sleeper by Abrams’s Nation.  Essentially it is a safety tent that we could put our daughter’s bed into.  When she wakes at night she could self soothe and go back to sleep instead of wandering, as she would be enclosed in her bed. This safety and security would provide my wife and I with some comfort and we would hopefully get some sleep which we so desperately need.  You truly don’t realize what a gift sleep is until it is taken from you.  Thank you 91.7 for consideration of this wish!

Now, the wait is over for Jason and his family. The Pepper & Dylan Show delivered their Safety Sleeper, and of course, we put them to work setting it up!

Congrats to Jason and his beautiful family!
