NBC dropped the first, official trailer for the upcoming season of This Is Us.

As Entertainment Tonight explains, “The new footage opens with young Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) in the car as they wax poetic about how chance encounters with strangers can drastically change the trajectory of your life, setting up what’s sure to be an interesting and expansive season.”

 

 

 

In the clip, Rebecca says, “It’s so strange, isn’t it? How just like that a completely stranger can become a big part of your story.  It’s actually kind of terrifying, you know? How a single cross with one person who you’ve never met can change everything.”

 

So what can we expect in season 4? An extended cast – Dan Fogelman who is the show’s creator, says, “We have a big plan of expansion.  The show is intended to be the expansive ways our lives evolve and connect us with our people.  That starts happening more and more.”  Back in June, it was announced actress Jennifer Morrison would be joining the cast.  Also joining, Omar Epps, M. Night Shyamalan, with guest appearances from Phylicia Rashad., Michael Angarano and Ron Cephas Jones.

 

 

 

 

Dan explains, “Many of our characters are in the middle of their stories, and that’s a point where characters are opening up to new things and new things are starting.  That becomes a very exciting period for almost all of the characters, and for some of them, maybe a very scary period in terms of how fraught their storylines are.  It’s going to feel in some ways almost like a version of season one in the middle of our series.”

 

 

 

Dan also reveals, “In the series, we have what I call little markers, little stakes we put in the ground of these episodes that serve as grounding points for the whole arc and the whole series.  Our first two episodes of this season are two of those and it’s a big, bold, potentially polarizing — but in the best possible way — start to the season.”
