They’re so popular, they’re coming back for a FIFTH year!

The company that puts them on made the announcement last week! Ice Castles are coming back to Hawrelak Park!

We don’t know what the design will be this year. Past designs have seen slides, thrones and even fire pits! Whatever it is, I’m sure it won’t disappoint!

The opening date is dependent on weather, the ideal weather for building is between -8 C to -17 C. They could be open as early as January 2020.

The Winter Wonderland is built by hand using only water. Professional ice artisans (because that’s a thing!) create hundreds of icicles before moving them in to position and spraying them with more water until the castle starts to take shape.

Edmonton was the first Canadian City to host the Ice Castles AND the first city ever that the exhibit returned to for a second year in a row! And this is year five! Nicely done, YEG!
